The US Supreme Court will soon announce its decision regarding race-conscious admissions in higher education. As we prepare for the ruling, we are guided by our values. Inclusive excellence is fundamental to who we are as a community. We cannot be truly excellent without being truly inclusive.

Building and supporting a diverse, inclusive, and vibrant community is central to our mission. This work has been part of AU’s DNA for generations; six years ago, we intentionally strengthened it through the inclusive excellence plan; and this important journey continues across 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏevery day. Inclusive excellence is a core pillar of our strategic plan and a defining feature of 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ. It connects and drives the diverse community of students, faculty, and staff we foster together. It informs and bolsters our faculty research. It enhances the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏstudent experience. It energizes collaboration with partners in Washington, DC, and beyond and helps us make 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏa great place to work. There is more work for us to do, and we are committed to these critical pursuits. 

When the Supreme Court’s decision is issued, we will conduct a thorough analysis, evaluate its potential impact, and provide additional updates to address questions and outline next steps. Regardless of the court’s ruling, as we move this important work forward, you can be certain that our steadfast commitment to inclusive excellence will endure and thrive.
