Peer Facilitator Position Description

The Peer Facilitator plays an essential role in the AUx1 (CORE-100/101/196) and 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏEncounters (°ä°¿¸é·¡-200/201)Ìýcourses by serving as a role model and a mentor to students in their first year at AU.

Peer Facilitators serve as student facilitators for sections of either AUx1 or 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏEncounters. Peer Facilitators for AUx1 and 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏEncounters have various responsibilities, including updating their students about campus events and activities, hosting office hours, encouraging student engagement, and coordinating on course planning, facilitation, and classroom management/logistics.

For AUx1, Peer Facilitators will typically be paired with the same staff or faculty Instructor for two sections. They are expected to attend all once-a-week AUx1 classes for their two assigned sections and assist the Instructor by offering their unique perspective as an 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏstudent.

For 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏEncounters, multiple Peer Facilitators will be assigned to sections and work togehter along with a faculty facilitator to lead the class. Peer Facilitators are expected to attend all class meetings, which occur four times during the semester and assist the faculty faciltator by helping lead a small groups of students in the class. Peer Facilitators assigned to 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏEncounters can also assist with in-person events and lectures, including film screenings, and leading other events related to the course.

  • Participate in Peer Facilitator training and meetings throughout the semester (dates to be announced)

  • Fulfill additional Move-In/All-American Welcome Week responsibilities (for fall hires)

  • Attend AUx1 or 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏEncounters classes as assigned

  • Coordinate and communicate with your assigned AUx1 Instructor or 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏEncounters Faculty Facilitator

  • Contribute to facilitating classroom dialogues

  • Hold weekly office hours

  • Meet and/or communicate regularly with your assigned Senior Peer Facilitator

  • Provide mentorship to students who are becoming academically/personally oriented to AU

  • 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏEncounters Peer Facilitators will also have the opportunity to assist with live lectures, film screenings, and exhibit visits during async weeks

  • Undergraduate student with sophomore standing or in their second year at 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏwith a minimum of 30 credits completed
  • Completed both AUx1 (CORE-100/101/196) and AUx2 (°ä°¿¸é·¡-200/201)Ìýbefore the start date, unless it was not a requirement for you
  • Maintain at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average
  • Be in good judicial standing
  • Demonstrated leadership in the 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏ community
  • Resident Assistants and Program Leaders are eligible to apply

The criteria listed above must be met by the start date for the Peer Facilitator role. Meaning that current first-year students and/or students currently enrolled in CORE-200/201 are eligible to apply.

Final hiring is contingent on the AUx Programs ability to assign you to sections based on the availability you provide.

  • AUx1 Peer Facilitators
    • Work approximately 8 to 10 hours per week
    • Peer Facilitators assigned to AUx1 will work 12 weeks
  • 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏEncounters Peer Facilitators
    • Work approximately 3-4 hours during asynchronous weeks, when Peer Facilitators will also have the opportunity to assist with live lectures, film screenings, and exhibit visits
    • Work approximately 5-6 hours during synchronous weeks
    • Peer Facilitators assigned to 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏEncounters will work 16 weeks

Peer Facilitators earn $17.50 per hour worked, and the position is open to FWS and non-FWS students.

  • Positions are available for both AUx1 and 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏEncounters courses
  • Please note that we anticipate having a limited number of vacant positions (10-15)
  • Submit an application by 11:59 PM on Sunday, November 10th
  • Have one 51³Ô¹ÏºÚÁÏFaculty member, Staff member, or a Current Peer Facilitators fill out a recommendation form by 11:59 PM on Sunday, November 10th

Application Review & Group Interview Process:

  • Application will be reviewed by committee once the application form has closed with group interviews will take place prior to Thanksgiving. 
  • If you are selected to interview for a Peer Facilitator position, we will contact you to schedule your interview based on your availability.
  • If you are not selected to interview for a Peer Facilitator position, we will contact you to inform you of the status of your application.
